What is Survivorship?

The term “cancer survivor” includes anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer, from the time of diagnosis, through treatment, and life beyond cancer. Your family members, friends, and caregivers are also an important part of your survivorship experience.

Once you complete your cancer treatment, work with your TCI care team to complete the worksheets included in this section to detail your My Survivorship Treatment Plan. Your plan should include:

  • Follow-up cancer care involving regular medical checkups that include a review of your medical history and a physical exam.
  • Checking for recurrence (the return of cancer in the primary site) or metastasis (the spread of cancer to another part of the body).
  • Follow-up care is individualized based on the type of cancer, the type of treatment received, and your overall health, including possible cancer treatment-related problems.
