Medical Oncology
Medical oncology is provided by an oncologist to help a diagnosed patient manage his or her cancer treatment and symptom management.
Your oncologist will personally work with you to create a treatment plan and inform you of all treatment options, which might include chemotherapy or other therapy treatments.
Chemotherapy, which is often referred to as “chemo,” is a procedure that attempts to use one or more drugs to attack cancer cells directly in hopes of killing the cancer-stricken area.
Chemotherapy is used to treat many forms of cancer, areas affected by cancer, or cancerous growths including:
- To control an incurable tumor
- To help reduce the size of a tumor before surgery or another form of therapy
- To reduce pain
